Welcome to sunny Cabo San Lucas, where stunning beaches meet unforgettable adventures—and where our family decided to take a trip that ended up being one for the books!
I’m Lisa from 365sol.travel, and this blog post is based on one of our most popular YouTube videos—an insider’s guide to fishing, beach life, tequila tasting, and exploring both sides of Cabo (the wild and the chill). Whether you’re planning a family getaway, a couples retreat, or an escape with friends, this post has all the tips and insights we picked up along the way.
🛎️ Where We Stayed
We split our stay between Casa Dorada in Cabo San Lucas and Cabo Azul Resort in San José del Cabo. Both were incredible for different reasons:
Casa Dorada:
- Swimmable beachfront location
- Steps to the marina, restaurants, and nightlife
- Spacious two-bedroom condos with full kitchens
- Perfect for families or groups
Cabo Azul:
- Quiet and luxurious vibe in San José del Cabo
- Massive pools and gorgeous modern suites
- More laid-back, upscale atmosphere
- Not swimmable, but great for beach walks and views
🎣 What We Did
Oh, so much!
- Deep Sea Fishing: Our family caught mahi mahi and even some marlin! Pro tip: fish licenses are separate and bait is bought at the dock, so plan ahead. We loved our captain, José, and our crew made the day unforgettable.
- Lovers Beach & Divorce Beach: Two beaches, one rock formation! The Sea of Cortez side is calm and swimmable, while the Pacific side is dramatic and dangerous (no swimming here!). We took a glass-bottom water taxi to get there—only about $10-12 round trip.
- The Arch of Cabo: Iconic and picture-perfect. We cruised past sea lions and even spotted a few turtles.
- Tequila Tasting: We visited a spot called Tequila Town—300 varieties, try-before-you-buy. Just watch out for counterfeit bottles. Look for intact seals and manufacturer labels.
- Dining Experiences:
- The Office: Right on the beach—fun, casual, and Instagram-worthy (especially the flaming Mexican coffee!)
- Cabo Wabo: Great food, lively vibe. Just don’t stay too late if you want to skip the party crowd.
- Twelve Tribes at Casa Dorada: Our favorite meal—fresh fish cooked to perfection.
- Baja Brewing Co.: Gorgeous views, great brews… but skip the food.
- Agave Kitchen (San José): The tuna here? Possibly the best thing we ate all trip.
- Shopping & Spa Time: San José surprised us with a high-end indoor mall and street massages for $40/hour right outside our hotel—yes, please!
💡 Tips to Know Before You Go
- Uber can’t pick you up at the airport—but you can use it to get around town (just walk a block from most resorts).
- Fishing boat prices vary wildly—don’t book the first one you see. Check out the boat, the crew, and the terms.
- Tequila is cheaper at the airport unless you’re looking for rare, boutique brands—those are only in local shops.
- Pool loungers fill up fast—some people claim them by 6:00 AM. Beach life might be the way to go!
- Swimmable beaches are not everywhere in Cabo. Always double-check before booking your resort.
🌅 Final Thoughts
Cabo is one of those rare places that checks all the boxes—sun, sand, great food, family-friendly activities, nightlife, and relaxation. Whether you stay near the marina in Cabo San Lucas or the quiet sophistication of San José, you’re in for a magical trip.
We came home with sun-kissed cheeks, cool bottles of tequila, and a boatload of memories (literally). And best of all? Some of our family already started planning their next Cabo trip before we even landed home.
